In his acceptance speech, Kirk outlined his goal to have the MBA better serve its membership, beginning with a new program that started in 2013.  It’s called Esq. Build, and it’s an Incubator project for new attorneys to receive office space at greatly reduced rent and attend free monthly CLE programs emphasizing the practical aspects of practicing law and starting a solo or small law firm.

Participants in this program are teamed with attorney mentors, as well as business mentors who help them learn how to run a small business and draft a business plan.  The participants are required to perform pro bono hours for MALS, as well as perform service hours for the MBA.

The MBA partnered with the University of Memphis Law School, the Society of Retired Executives and the MBA Sole/Small Firm Section in developing Esq. Build, and to our knowledge, is the only legal incubator project in the county involving such diverse groups. 

This program is designed to transition young attorneys into the real world of practicing law, and giving them the skills and resources to be successful.
