Kirk Caraway

Bar: Admitted, Tennessee Supreme Court, 1997; U.S. District Court for the Western District of Tennessee; U.S. District Court for the Western District of Arkansas; U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas; United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.

Education: Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Memphis in 1994; Juris Doctorate with honors from the University of Memphis School of Law in 1997. While in law school, Mr. Caraway received the American Jurisprudence Award for Pre-Trial Litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution-Labor. Mr. Caraway was a member of the Moot Court Board, and competed on the National Moot Court Team and the Wagner Labor Law Moot Court Team. He was also the recipient of the C. Cleveland Drennon Memorial Scholarship.

Professional: Memphis Bar Association (President 2014; Board of Directors 2006-2008; Executive Committee 2008; President of the Young Lawyer’s Division 2005-2006).

Practice: Mr. Caraway’s practice focuses on litigation in both state and federal courts, and he has tried more than fifty cases in those venues. He has also represented clients in administrative proceedings at arbitrations and mediations. Mr. Caraway graduated from the National Institute for Trial Advocacy’s Trial Advocacy Skills Program in 2003.

Honors: The Memphis Bar Association awarded Mr. Caraway the Sam A. Myar, Jr. Award for outstanding service to the legal profession and the community in 2008. Mr. Caraway was selected as a “Mid-South Rising Star” by Law & Politics in 2008, 2009, 2010 and selected as a “Superlawyer” by that same publication in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016. In 2009, he was selected as a “Fellow” of the Memphis Bar Foundation, which nominates attorneys practicing ten (10) years or more for membership based on distinguished service to the legal profession and adherence to the highest standards of professional ethics and personal conduct. In that same year, he was selected by the Memphis Business Journal as a member of the “Top 40 Under 40”, which recognizes individuals under the age of 40 who have made significant contributions in the business, professional, civic and personal arenas in Memphis and the Mid-South area. The following year, Mr. Caraway was elected Secretary of the Memphis Bar Association, which resulted in him serving as an Officer for four years and the President of that organization in 2014. Mr. Caraway was featured in an article in the Memphis Lawyer, "Meet Kirk Caraway", which highlights his agenda for the Memphis Bar Association. In 2011, Mr. Caraway was the recipient of the University of Memphis College of Arts and Sciences Outstanding Alumni Award. In 2012, he was given an "AV" Pre-eminent Peer Review Rating by Martindale-Hubbell, and in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015, Mr. Caraway was selected as a "Top Rated Lawyer in Labor and Employment" by American Lawyer Media. In 2014, Kirk was accepted into membership in the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum®, which is limited to attorneys who have obtained verdicts, awards or settlements of Two Million Dollars or more. In 2015, Mr. Caraway became a Rule 31 listed Mediator and was inducted as a lifetime member of Trial Masters, an organization which limits attorneys who tried to verdict 35 or more lawsuits. In 2016, Mr. Caraway was elected President of the Board of Directors of the Memphis Sigma Chi Housing Corporation, and was named a Finalist for the "Best of Bar" award by the Memphis Business Journal. In 2016 and 2017, he was selected by his peers as one of the "Best Lawyers in America" in the field of Employment Law-Manaagement.

Presentations: Mr. Caraway has presented numerous seminars concerning employment law topics, the litigation of workers’ compensation claims and trial advocacy skills.

Community: He has been involved in charitable causes benefiting underprivileged children and non-profit legal services for the poor. He also speaks annually to high school students regarding the legal profession and law-related topics.
